About us
[…] I realised how important musical knowledge and experience were, both culturally and socially, and so, together with a few collaborators, I decided to set up a small school in Rome. A recorder academy had been founded in Turin, but in Italy there were no places or opportunities to study and practise early music, and there was a need to be together, a desire for something that would bring people closer and unite them […]
With these words, Prof. Giancarlo Rostirolla recalls how, in 1968, he laid the foundations of what in 1970 would become the Società Italiana del Flauto Dolce (Italian Recorder Society), which, with its international festival and summer courses in Urbino, immediately became a leading point of reference for the study and historically informed performance of early repertoire. Since 1993, the SIFD has been the Fondazione Italiana per la Musica Antica.
